Art Vs Porn

Tue Dec 1, 2009, 3:11 PM
A recent watcher of mine (yeah that surprises me too lol) brought up an interesting point in his own journal. I won't link because it's not my story to tell but the gist of it goes along the age old story of artistic nudity versus dirty dirty porn.

I am personally a fan of artistic nudity, some shots can be done in beautiful ways that show an appreciation for the naked human form. I don't have any faved in my list because I am lazy like that. But I do watch several stock artists, some who do nude stock on a regular basis.

I am also aware that people under 16 might visit my page and I don't want them seeing nude people and then I get into trouble from irate parents. I'm not sure if this has ever happened, maybe I'm being too cautious, maybe I'm just too lazy to look for nice nudey pictures.

If you look at my own art you'll see I have quite a few pictures of semi naked women, I won't apologise for these, they're tasteful and the human body is quite beautiful.

The issue is, what is the boundary line, where does tasteful nudity become soft core porn? For myself it is legs spread hands touching genitals in a sexual manner...however someone else might not see that as soft core porn, its subjective and whilst I am aware there are probably guidelines about what is and what isn't considered porn at the end of the day its subjective.

I once reported an image because it was a screen cap from a porn movie, the woman was giving a blow job, that is porn, plain and simple, the picture was removed and quite possibly the deviant member was chastised about it.

The rules of Deviant Art are quite clear, no porn, that's something I can agree with, I personally don't like porn, I understand there are people who do enjoy it, that's fine by me, as long as I don't have to watch it. I'm not going to go into the idea that it objectifies women, honestly, as of recently my opinion on this has begun to change, I read Belle de Jour's blog, she was a call girl and it was her choice to sell her body for money, she's a scientist with a PhD in some sort of science specialising in things I can't pronounce, she's an intelligent woman with brains and an up-yours attitude, I admire her a great deal. I have begun to see that someone making the decision to sell their body is just that THEIR decision, I object to the idea that some women are forced into this, but then anybody should object.

I'm not sure how much more I can expound on this argument, after this point anything I say would be irrelevant anyway, after all I've said my piece, given my opinion, what more need be said?

Saying that I don't object to people commenting, go as far as to link this to other people to get more debate going (yes this is a blatant attempt at getting more people seeing the crap I call art lol)
